Description
This stunning work of fine art by accomplished artist Diane Williams was created with mixed media on a natural-wood cradled panel. Spring Thaw is part of her Gesturing the Void series that exhibits bold, confident strokes similar to those perfected by the Chinese masters. Williams explains:
“One of my teachers, Brenda Louie, spoke of Chinese masters’ works, saying they perfected a single stroke and those strokes stood alone as complete paintings. They knew the exact placement, when to set the brush down and when to lift it with the perfect amount of pressure. These strokes were genuine, sure and true but took many years to perfect. She went on to say that if we stopped after a single stroke it would be arrogant! After painting for many years, I have learned to recognize when a single stroke conveys something profound, and I have developed the confidence to stop. Not a Chinese master, simply a lucky break.”
With 1.5” deep natural wood edges, Spring Thaw is wired and ready to hang. It also works nicely grouped with other works in the series, including Dancing the Ancestors, Folding Paper, Dancing Brush, Golden Lotus, Jumping over the Broom and Navigating Still Water. Alone or in a group, Spring Thaw will make a powerful yet elegant statement.
