About the Artist
Joyce is a mixed media, abstract painter living in North Carolina. Her colorful art seeks to promote personal growth. Using organic shapes, patterns and texture with collage, she instills a delightful spirit into her work, encouraging and empowering viewers to follow their inner voice.

Joyce transferred all of her knowledge she gained from fabric exploration in her youth to her passion for painting, and the result is powerful.

Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Nazareth College, Rochester, NY she was the singular recipient of The Gertrude Ford Award for excellence in art. One of her paintings hangs in their permanent collection.

Joyce continues to win awards for her engaging work – recently winning her 3rd Arts and Science Council (ASC) Grant for 2023. She actively shows in national and international juried exhibits and has works in private and public collections across the nation.

Artist Statement

“My love of abstract painting with shapes, patterns, mark-making, textures, collage and bold colors began when I was a nine-year-old girl staring at my mom sewing on an old, pedal Singer Sewing Machine.

Being captivated by the process, I begged her to let me make something, too. So, she sat me down and taught me how to sew. By the time I was a teen, I was making most of my own clothing. Later, quilting and crocheting introduced a form of adding texture and collage to my textiles.

Using printed fabric and pinned, geometric sections to cut out shapes for my clothing and quilts defined my identity, my art style and talent. It became a colorful way to express myself for years to come.

Later, I transferred all that knowledge into my passion for painting when taking art courses in college.

I use my timed-honored process to create inspiring, bold, cheerful paintings that send positive messages of encouragement and empowerment.”
