Music Doing Good

Music Doing Good is a nonprofit arts organization that inspires and transforms children’s lives through innovative, music-based programming and performance experiences. The outreach programs bring musical enrichment to children in Houston’s most disadvantaged communities. The programs use music to stimulate minds, spark creativity and ignite imagination. Music Doing Good outreach programs include:

Music Doing Good in Schools engages the whole child in this innovative fine arts program designed to educate and empower students of Title 1 schools. The yearlong program culminates in a dynamic, student-driven performance at one of Houston’s premier performing arts venues. The program is TEKS-aligned and challenges students to develop important life skills such as critical-thinking, conflict resolution, collaboration, leadership, and self-confidence.

Music Doing Good with Instruments partners with school districts, administrators, instructors and parents in support of instrumental music programs.  We expand educational opportunities for Houston-area students by granting new or gently-used instruments at no cost to students and underfunded music programs.

Music Doing Good with Scholarships grants funds to students, grades 4 through 12, for private lessons, music workshops and music festivals.

Music Doing Good in Service provides free piano accompaniment to music programs around the greater Houston area. Music teachers now have the luxury of a pianist to record and rehearse UIL repertoire, run a sectional rehearsal, take the lead on a campus-wide musical and provide individual coaching.

The Music Doing Good College-Bound Scholarship Fund was established last fall and has provided two four-year, $40,000 scholarships to music students at University of Houston, University of St. Thomas and Texas Southern University. Additionally, four two-year scholarships were provided to students at Houston Community College.
