Rohrer has lived in the Bay Area most of her life. Her love of art began during a year-long trip to Europe and N. Africa following her first year of undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley. Upon her return she majored in Art and went on to receive an M.A. in Art (Painting and Art History) from San Francisco State University. Although trained in representational modes, she developed an appreciation for Abstract Expressionism. Her love of color motivates her work — color as it interacts with forms and textures and how it’s spontaneously rendered on the paper. Color evokes moods and emotions helping her connect with deeper places within her. Art for Judith is also a way to play and have fun.

Artist Statement:

“My art is a visual chronicle of my life over the past several years.  Sometimes it tells a  colorful story, for instance  when birds and fish appear.  Other times my work is my emotional response to what’s happening in my life at the time — from processing grief and life during the pandemic to visiting beautiful spots in nature and celebrating the arrival of Spring.

Art is how I discover deeper places within myself and as a result am able to connect with others. It renews my sense of curiosity, playfulness and inner joy that is available no matter what happens.  Like life, my art is full of mistakes, re-dos and happy accidents that reinforce the continual, boundless surprise of creativity.

I love color and mark-making and use acrylics, oil sticks, collage, pencil and ordinary tools like screwdrivers, sanders, combs, old credit cards and bubble wrap to create textures and experiment with color.”
